"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Mark 16:15, KJV
History of the Church
The Mineral Springs Baptist Church was organized August 4, 1865 under the leadership of Rev. D.L. Hicks. The church was built on land donated by Hardman Barmore and began with eleven charter members. A monument now stands on the original site of the church on which the names of the charter members were recorded. This memorial is a treasured gift donated by Clyde Frasier.
The one room church endured until the late 1930’s when Rev. J.A. Price was pastor. He led the congregation in building Sunday School rooms and putting in new pews. Rev. McCann told the congregation to have two services a month. The church began a full time schedule in 1950.
The church purchased two acres of land from Continental Can Company across the road from the old church. Construction of the new church building was begun under the leadership of Rev. Norman Tilbury. Groundbreaking for the new building was completed under the leadership of Rev. Ed North and the dedication was August 1, 1964.
Church Fire
On Saturday morning of May 23, 2020, a fire destroyed the main building of the church. After the fire the church family met the following day for worship on the parking lot. A message of hope was delivered with many prayers for Gods direction and provision to rebuild, In the following Sunday’s we continued to meet under a tent on the parking lot and eventually were able to meet inside the fellowship hall which had survived the fire. We are currently meeting inside the fellowshiphall, while we move forward to construct a new worship center.
Rebuilding
Construction preparations are underway with the pouring of the slab for the new building completed. On Sunday January 30, 2022 prior to the pouring of the concrete we met as a church and dedicated the new foundation by placing a Bible under the altar area. Our desire is to glorify the Lord in the construction and use of the this building for years to come. There is also plans for building a family life center that will happen after the construction of the new church building. In the past 155 years, many have come to know the Lord through the ministry of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. We hope the work has just begun in reaching people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, not only in this community, but around the world.
Meet the Paster Pastor Greg Tipton was called into the gospel ministry over 30 years ago. He has served four churches during that time. His first pastorate was at Ouachita Baptist Church at Sparkman, AR where he was bi-vocational for six years. His second pastorate was at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Doddridge, AR where he began full-time vocational ministry, serving there for five years. His third pastorate was at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Vivian, LA where he ministered for four years.
He began here at MSBC July, 2005. He and his wife Becky have been married for over 45 years and have one son whose name is Jason. Although brother Greg was not born a native of Louisiana, he loves Louisiana and considers it home. He sees the people of the church and the community as family.
His 30 plus years of service can be summed up in one statement. He has a passion for people and a passion for preaching.
